The Deathwatch is tasked with dealing with these xenos threats, often operating on the fringes of Imperial space. Theirs is a duty to scout out, assess, and neutralize alien dangers before they can spread and threaten the Imperium. The term "xenos" is a catch-all for the myriad alien species that populate the galaxy. From the towering, four-armed ork warriors to the shape-shifting Eldar, each xenos species presents a unique threat to humanity. The Tyranids, with their hive mind and ravenous hunger for biomass, are a particular concern, as are the Necrons, ancient robotic warriors who seek to reclaim their lost empire. Beyond the major races, the book includes a section on "Minor Xenos" and strange alien entities. This provides unique, one-off boss fights or mystery encounters for Kill-Teams. This might include:
Maggot-like intelligent worms that pilot human-shaped suits. The Slaugth are masters of biomanipulation. The PDF’s rules for their "Lifeworms" can literally delete a Marine’s brain cells permanently. They are the spy-horror foil to the Deathwatch’s brute force.
