The band coalesced from the remnants of guitarist Scott Holiday's previous project, Black Summer Crush. After the dissolution of that band, Holiday began searching for a new vocalist and discovered Jay Buchanan on MySpace. Along with drummer Michael Miley and bassist Robin Everhart, the lineup was complete.
Released on June 21, 2011, via Earache Records, Pressure & Time was Rival Sons’ sophomore album and their first to receive international distribution. Following their raw, bluesy debut Before the Fire (2009), this record represented a quantum leap in songwriting, production, and sheer sonic weight.
The title track is a masterclass in modern riff-rock. It features a hypnotic, blues-infused riff that feels both nostalgic and fresh, driven by a "Rolling Stones meets The Doors" rhythm section. Jay Buchanan’s vocals here are reminiscent of a young Robert Plant, raw and emotive, while Scott Holiday’s guitar solo provides high-voltage energy. Highlights and Standout Tracks
